Amant Art Campus is spread across three blocks in rapidly changing, industrial North Brooklyn. This cultural incubator functions both privately and publicly, with artist studios, galleries, offices, and a cafe. Each of the four buildings in the collection is unique in proportion, size, and texture, with façade materials that range from white brick to galvanized steel channels. A series of courtyards and thoroughfares weave through and between the buildings, integrating art spaces into the urban environment of the East Williamsburg neighborhood.

The eclectic design called for minimalist entrance solutions that would successfully serve as a complementary aesthetic to the variety of materials that the buildings reveal. At times, the campus has a high volume of foot traffic, so entrances must also safely provide easy and quick egress in case of emergencies.

To help visually integrate the buildings and create a sense of consistency in their interior and exterior openings, CRL entrance systems were specified by SO-IL architects. Throughout the campus, 15 CRL doors are used in main entrances, exits to courtyards, and in thoroughfares between buildings.

Specified products include:

  • 4” DRS Door Rails on each door in a brushed stainless steel finish. With their slim 4” height, the rails complement the minimalist building design by reducing the presence of hardware and emphasizing the façade itself.
  • Blumcraft PA100 Panic Handles featuring a slim 1-1/4" diameter profile. Their sleek look combined with a satin anodized finish work with the surrounding concrete and brick motif without visually overpowering it. Functionally, they allow quick and easy egress in case of an emergency.
  • 84" Rail-to-Rail Ladder Pulls in a satin anodized finish provided an artistic but functional purpose to doorways that reflects the creativity of the campus.

As a group, these CRL entrance systems provide consistency and serve as a visual intermediary between the buildings and the diverse materials used to create them, while ensuring long-lasting strength and functional quality.
